In The Now with Jim Swilley Episode 1: "Blurred Lines"

This is Episode #1 of 'In The Now with Jim Swilley'. The shows got better and better as we shot more of them, and eventually found our rhythm and balance, but this first one is a wonderful start to something that will only improve as we learn the format. I am very proud of it as it is, even though I know that even better ones are coming. As the episodes progress, you will see the camera shots get crisper and more accurate, the conversations become livelier, with more equal participation from the guests (who are all awesome!), and the spirit and general atmosphere of the whole thing just get warmer and more inviting. I am very excited about this...enjoy!

Wow very good episode! couple of points that were made in the show that I have always thought. Like when Robert said that he thinks all religion are true, Me and Christianity have not all ways agreed so I started looking for some sort of belief that i could come to terms with. When i was reading about all of this forms of faith they all had thing in common. The other point that I really liked was that when you read the bible you read it from who you are at that time. I was in the closet for 18 years and I grow up in a pentecostal hellfire church so for the better half of my life thought that god hated me for who i was and when I read the bible that is what i saw but now that I know better I see the bible in a whole new light.

As usual, I have so much to say.... I'll start by saying "thank you" for launching this project. It really couldn't have been better timing for me as I have just recently made friends with a couple here in N. Ga who are beginning to question their religious upbringing. As you know, I am not only way outside the box in my thinking/theology but, I fell off the edge a long time ago. haha So, for me to try to answer their questions about the fairness of them living the "straight and narrow" while the non-believer gets a "get outta hell free card" or them asking me to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt to them that there is no literal hell or if this or that isn't true why does the Bible say this or that....it has felt like trudging through molasses some days. As much as I LOVE seeing people set free from the law of religion, it has been a real challenge for me to try to rewind all the way back to the basics. Letting go of my own personal "religious bondage" was SO easy for me. All I needed was someone to validate all the things I had questioned in my youth. When I came to CITN many years ago and heard you begin to validate with scripture what I had always longed to believe, it was instant transformation for me. I am realizing that the transition is not that easy for others. They have one foot firmly planted in their Psycho Mean God law and one toe dipped into Graceful, Loving God liberty. A series like "In the Now with Jim Swilley" is vital to people like this. One of them recently asked me, "Are there really other people who believe like you?" I had to laugh and reply, "yes, millions". It was shocking to them. I have ordered SOTB for them, spent time teaching and explaining for hours on end. However, for you to publicly present this "round table" of men (many of whom I consider close friends) from all different ages, religious upbringings, and walks of life who all have come to the same conclusion....well, it is going to set people free. By the way, I look forward to seeing some women at the table in future episodes. Finally, this series is also comforting to me in that it reminds me of Body Builders. I miss the iron sharpening iron format of sitting around a table and blowing each other's minds. I love you. I am proud of you and I am so grateful you are stepping into your next "now".

  17. I love it...thanks so much!...I invited 4 women to be a part of the first tapings, and only one of them was able to be there that day, and she'll be on in a couple of episodes...I'm very excited about all the possibilities...and when I pitched the idea, I referred to 'Body Builders', especially back in the day when it was so amazing...thanks for your words...means a lot!

Really good conversation. As usaul your are all right about the way we view/feel/try to understand God. Most of the time we use men(minister) to be our sole way to understand God. One of your panel members said it best how much closer can you be to God than to breathe the breath he gives. None of you should stop doing what you do the world needs your combined wisdom!
